Alex Scott Reunion With Iraola Could Shape Liverpool’s Midfield Plans

Why Bournemouth’s Nine Figure Price Tag Won’t Scare Liverpool Off Alex Scott

We have been here before with Liverpool and a Bournemouth midfielder, and this one feels like it has real legs. Alex Scott has been one of the Premier League’s more reliable performers this season, and the sense around the game is that his next move is becoming a matter of when rather than if. According to Fabrizio Romano, Bournemouth have already opened dialogue with the player’s representatives, with the expectation that something will give.

The Iraola connection

The detail that makes this one worth watching closely is Andoni Iraola’s history with the player. The two worked together at Bournemouth before Iraola took the Liverpool job, and that kind of familiarity tends to speed deals up rather than slow them down. A manager who already knows exactly what a player can do, how he trains and how he responds under pressure removes a lot of the guesswork that usually surrounds a big money midfield signing.

Chelsea remain in the picture too, and have been linked with Scott for some time, so Liverpool are not operating in a vacuum here. Romano’s own update put it plainly: “for sure Scott will leave Bournemouth in 2027, there are movements.” That is about as clear a signal as reporting gets this far out from a transfer actually happening.

The price is the obstacle

Bournemouth, sensibly, are not giving him away. The figure being talked about is in excess of £100m, which is a significant outlay for a midfielder still proving himself at the very top end of the league. Liverpool have shown in recent windows that they will spend when the profile is right, but a fee at that level demands total conviction from everyone in the building, not just the head coach.

Our view

Scott looks like a player on the way up, and the England recognition he has picked up only adds to that picture. The existing relationship with Iraola is the part of this that should carry real weight inside Anfield Road, because it shortens the adjustment period that usually comes with a fee this size. We would rather Liverpool move early and decisively than let this drift into the new year and watch Chelsea, or someone else entirely, push the price even higher. If the coach wants him, the club should back that judgement.
