LatestShearer Says Liverpool Win at Anfield, And We Don’t Disagree

Kerkez’s Left-Back Spot Isn’t as Safe as It Looked

The Truffert Links That Should Worry Milos Kerkez

Liverpool’s rebuild under Andoni Iraola has already touched most areas of the squad, but left-back is quietly becoming one of the more interesting subplots of the season. A fresh report from TeamTalk claims Liverpool are among the clubs monitoring Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert, and that is the sort of link that puts Milos Kerkez’s long term future under a bit more scrutiny than he probably expected this early in his Anfield career.

Context matters here. Liverpool spent more than £150m in the summer window alone, and when a club commits that kind of money, every individual signing gets judged harder and faster. Iraola has shown no reluctance to shuffle his squad quickly, which only sharpens the spotlight on players still trying to nail down a regular place.

Why Truffert, And Why Now

According to the report, Liverpool are not alone in watching Truffert, with Manchester United and a handful of leading European clubs also said to be tracking the France international ahead of the 2027 transfer windows. He has settled quickly since joining Bournemouth, where he effectively replaced Kerkez, and has built a reputation as a reliable, balanced full back who contributes at both ends of the pitch.

There is an obvious symmetry to the story given Truffert already filled the void Kerkez left behind on the south coast, and Liverpool have shown before that they are willing to go back to a market that has served them well. None of that guarantees a move, but it does suggest left-back is firmly on the recruitment team’s radar rather than an area they consider settled.

Kerkez Under Pressure, Not Under Threat Yet

To be clear, interest in another full back does not automatically mean Kerkez is on his way out. He only joined Liverpool for around £40m and he is still just 22, which is far too young to be written off after one uneven campaign. The report does suggest, though, that confidence in his long term role has softened a little as his performances have dipped below what was expected when he arrived.

That is a fair reflection of the standards at a club trying to win the biggest honours rather than a harsh one. Iraola’s system asks a lot of his full backs physically and positionally, from winning individual duels to supporting attacks at exactly the right moment and staying switched on through transitions. If the coaching staff feel those demands are not being consistently met, looking at alternatives is simply good practice, not a dramatic statement on Kerkez.

Our Take

This is one of those stories that makes complete sense on paper while still feeling slightly uncomfortable as a supporter. If the club genuinely believes Truffert suits Iraola’s demands better, then Liverpool should be ruthless about it. That is how the best sides operate, identifying a weak point and fixing it before it costs them points over a full season.

At the same time, there is a nagging sense that Kerkez might be getting judged a touch too soon. He is young, clearly talented, and left-back has historically been a brutal position at Liverpool for anyone following a difficult act. Not every player adapts at the same speed, and patience has its place too.

The Truffert interest feels believable precisely because Liverpool cannot afford uncertainty in key areas if they want to compete properly again. Healthy competition for places makes sense. Ruling Kerkez out already feels premature. A lot will likely come down to how he responds once he realises the club is genuinely exploring other options around him.
