Why Liverpool Can Forget About Michael Olise This Time Around
The transfer grapevine has been floating Michael Olise’s name around Anfield for ages, but the latest word out of Germany suggests that particular dream is close to dying before it ever really got going. According to Sky Germany, Bayern Munich are growing confident that Olise will either put pen to paper on a fresh long term contract in Bavaria or, if he ever does leave, move to Real Madrid instead of anywhere in the Premier League.
That is not the update Liverpool supporters wanted, though if we are honest with ourselves it is probably the one most of us expected all along.
A Two Club Decision That Leaves Liverpool Out
Olise is contracted at Bayern until 2029, so nobody in Munich is under any real pressure to rush a decision. Even so, the report is clear that the next twelve months will bring things to a head, with Bayern reportedly treating the situation as a straight choice between two outcomes: keep him with a bumper renewal, or lose him to Real Madrid if the Spanish giants come calling with everything they have. Liverpool, by this account, are not seriously part of that conversation.

It is a frustrating read for a club that has quietly admired Olise’s output on the right for a couple of seasons now. His close control, the way he drifts inside to combine, and his eye for goal from the edge of the box are exactly the qualities Liverpool have wanted to add to the final third. Admiring a player from a distance, though, counts for very little when the two clubs actually fighting for him are Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
What It Means For Iraola’s Forward Line
Assuming this report holds up, Andoni Iraola and the recruitment staff now have to turn their attention elsewhere. Even in the unlikely event Bayern did entertain offers, a fee for a player of Olise’s level would surely have pushed well beyond £100m, and that kind of outlay was always going to need Bayern to blink first. Nothing in this report suggests they are anywhere close to doing that.
The more pressing issue for Liverpool is timing. If Olise is effectively off the market, the club needs to identify its next genuine upgrade out wide before other suitors move first, rather than drifting from one admired name to the next without ever landing on one.
Our Take
This stings precisely because it is familiar. Olise looked like exactly the sort of statement forward Liverpool should be competing for, someone with the craft and end product to genuinely change the attack rather than just add depth to it. Watching the conversation play out between two other European giants, without Liverpool anywhere near it, is not a good look for a club with this level of ambition.
None of that means paying silly money just to be seen to compete. It does mean Liverpool need to be in the room for players of this calibre, not reading about their futures from the outside. Supporters can live with missing out occasionally. What is harder to accept is a summer plan that keeps circling unattainable targets without ever settling on the right alternative. If Olise really is gone, the next move needs to be decisive, because standing still is not an option Liverpool can afford.
