Liverpool Player Ratings vs Brighton: Araújo and Gakpo Shine in 2-0 Victory

Liverpool secured their first home Premier League victory of the season with a deserved 2-0 success against Brighton at Anfield. Andoni Iraola’s side produced a clinical opening period before demonstrating the defensive resilience required to protect their advantage.

A Pascal Groß own goal and an Alexander Isak finish settled the contest, with Ronald Araújo and Cody Gakpo earning the highest player ratings after particularly influential performances.

Liverpool Player Ratings:

Alisson Becker: 7/10

A composed performance from the Brazilian, who provided reassurance behind Liverpool’s defence. His handling and positioning were generally reliable, particularly as Brighton increased the pressure after half-time.

Ronald Araújo: 9/10, Man of the Match

An outstanding display from the Barcelona loanee, whose combination of strength, anticipation and attacking ambition made him Liverpool’s standout performer. His powerful forward movement contributed to the opening goal, while his defensive work ensured Brighton found little encouragement down his flank. A commanding afternoon.

Jérémy Jacquet: 8/10

Another mature performance from the French defender. Jacquet repeatedly anticipated danger, positioned himself intelligently and made several crucial interventions. His physical presence became increasingly important as Brighton attempted to force their way back into contention.

Virgil van Dijk: 8/10

Liverpool’s captain delivered the authority expected of him. Dominant in the air and constantly organising those around him, Van Dijk ensured the defensive unit remained focused. His leadership was particularly valuable during Brighton’s stronger spells.

Milos Kerkez: 7/10

An energetic and disciplined contribution from the Hungarian left-back. Kerkez supported Liverpool’s attacking movement while remaining alert to Brighton’s threat in wide areas. His defensive concentration helped maintain the clean sheet before his late withdrawal.

Alexis Mac Allister: 8/10

Arguably Liverpool’s most accomplished midfield performer. Operating in a deeper position, the Argentine provided composure in possession and valuable protection for the defence. His awareness and passing helped Liverpool navigate difficult periods, particularly during the second half.

Ryan Gravenberch: 7/10

A mixed opening period saw the Dutch midfielder occasionally struggle with Brighton’s physical approach. However, his influence improved considerably after the interval, especially when given greater freedom to advance and connect Liverpool’s midfield with their attacking players.

Florian Wirtz: 8/10

Bright, inventive and heavily involved in Liverpool’s most productive attacking moments. His willingness to shoot produced the opening goal through a deflection off Groß. The German continued to offer intelligent movement and creativity before injury forced his departure after 64 minutes.

Cody Gakpo: 9/10

An excellent attacking performance from the Dutch international. Gakpo combined clever positioning with confident movement, repeatedly identifying spaces in Brighton’s defensive structure. His creativity and direct running provided Liverpool with a consistent attacking threat, particularly during the second half.

Alexander Isak: 7/10

Another Premier League goal for the Swedish striker, whose instinctive movement allowed him to convert Bradley Barcola’s delivery. Isak’s positioning and finishing were impressive, although his involvement became more limited as Liverpool concentrated on protecting their lead. Replaced after 76 minutes.

Bradley Barcola: 7/10

The French winger’s pace and determination were central to Liverpool’s second goal. His anticipation, acceleration and delivery created the opportunity for Isak, while his willingness to attack space continued to trouble Brighton. An energetic contribution before his substitution.

Liverpool Substitutes and Iraola Rating

Trey Nyoni: 7/10

Introduced for Wirtz after 64 minutes, the youngster added fresh energy and positional discipline. His defensive awareness helped Liverpool maintain control during an important period.

Rio Ngumoha: 7/10

Brought on after 76 minutes, Ngumoha offered directness and attacking enthusiasm, providing Brighton with another problem to consider.

Lewis Koumas: 6/10

Added pressing intensity following his introduction in the 76th minute. Worked diligently to disrupt Brighton’s attempts to build momentum.

Kostas Tsimikas: 6/10

Provided experience and defensive support during the closing stages, helping Liverpool protect their advantage.

Andoni Iraola: 9/10

An excellent afternoon for Liverpool’s head coach. His tactical approach allowed Liverpool to exploit Brighton’s defensive vulnerabilities, with the two early goals establishing a decisive advantage.

Iraola also managed the second half intelligently, making substitutions that preserved energy and defensive organisation. A clean sheet against one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking sides represented another encouraging development.

Liverpool’s fourth consecutive victory in all competitions offers further evidence of growing confidence under Iraola. With Araújo outstanding defensively and Gakpo providing attacking inspiration, the Reds delivered the balance required to secure three important Premier League points.

Final score: Liverpool 2-0 Brighton

Man of the Match: Ronald Araújo, 9/10
